How Do I Stay Safe
Article Submitted By: The TMB TEAM
Beginning modelling is an exciting time and it is very easy to let your guard down and forget about the fundamental steps you should take to stay safe. Here are a few tips to help you stay out of dangers way:

Personal details
Never reveal your address or telephone number over the Internet. It is often good practice to have a separate stage name rather than using your real one.

Get to know the photographer
Ask any photographer that contacts you to provide you with recent references from models that they have worked with. You should ask for their names, email addresses and preferably their TMB No. Take the time to contact these models and find out what their experience was like with the photographer.

Remember, the TMB website offers ‘member to member’ emails, so you can send and receive email with the added security that you do not have to share your personal email address.

Take a look at sample photographs by the photographer on their TMB profile. Their style and interest of photography should become apparent.

If a photographer is ever reluctant to provide you with references then be wary. At an absolute minimum - make an appointment to meet the photographer in advance of the shoot at a public place. Make sure you take a friend. Only when you are comfortable should you schedule a shoot.

Shoot Type
Ensure you and the photographer are in clear agreement to the shoot's contents and fee. Ensure the photographer knows your limits and exactly what is expected before the shoot commences.

Do not pay for a test shoot
Most photographers will do TFP (Time for Prints). This is a good way for a newcomer to build up their portfolio at no cost.

Be polite but firm
Common sense and awareness of your surroundings is vital. Do not become over sensitive but remember, although very rare, there are unscrupulous photographers who will try to take advantage of you.
