The Moral Implications Of Modelling
Article Submitted By: The TMB TEAM
At TMB we do not pretend to have all the answers, especially when it comes to moral issues.

The one piece of advice that we are pleased to promote is one of TMB’s cardinal guidelines; NEVER compromise your safety, personal beliefs or dignity.

It is often the best code of practice to avoid anything that makes you feel uncomfortable or pushed. DO NOT make decisions under the pressure of a casting or shoot that you may regret later. Always have your own limits pre-set and never compromise them.

It is unethical to try to persuade or pressure others to do things they are not comfortable with.

There are different types of modeling and photography and most are no different in a moral sense from any other commercial or leisure activity. However when it comes to part nude, or nude photography moral issues become more important.

TMB does not in anyway support sexually explicit images or images of a pornographic nature in the commercial industry.

In our bid to remain impartial in moral judgments we have included below articles both for and against the practice of model photography. TMB’s own team and various other contributors have submitted the following quotes.

whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Philippians 4.8.)

"Fear not for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine. Remember you are precious in my eyes, and honoured, and I love you. (Isaiah 43.)

What ever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10. 31.)

I wish you would bear with me in a little foolishness. Do bear with me! I feel a divine jealously for you, to present you as a pure bride to her one husband. But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray. (2 Corinthians 11, 1-3.)

Do not let yourselves be shaped by the world where you live, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may know what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. ( Romans 12, 2.)

How beautiful you are, how lovely, my beloved, in your delights! -Your cheeks look lovely between pendants, your neck beautiful with strings of beads. -We will make you earrings of gold and necklaces of silver. As a lily among thorns, so is my love among women. Your face so lovely-your voice so sweet. Turn your eyes away from me for they bewitch me. (Song of Solomon.)

Hear me my beloved, and grow as a rose planted near a stream. Spread fragrance around you like incense; blossom and perfume the air like a lily; sing a hymn and bless God for all his works. (Ecclesiasticus 39. 18-19.)

If you receive my words, and treasure up my commandments, wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will watch over you; understanding will guard you; delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech, who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness. (Proverbs 2)

The gain from wisdom is better than gain from silver and its profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. (Proverbs 3.)

You have ravished my heart with one of your glances, with one bead of your necklace. (Song of Songs)

But do not be taken up with outward appearances: hairstyles, gold necklaces and clothes. There is something more permanent that shines from within a person: a gentle and peaceful disposition. This is really precious in God’s sight. (1 Peter 3. 3-4.)

Your light must shine before others. (Mathew 5. 16.)

Be holy for I am holy. (1 Peter 1.16.)

You are a garden enclosed, my sister, my bride. -Arise, North wind! Awake south wind! Blow upon my garden and spread its fragrance abroad. (Song of Songs)

Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells within you? If anyone destroys God’s temple God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy and that temple you are. (1 Corinthians 3, 16-17)

(Men should) treat younger women like sisters in all purity. (1 Timothy 5. 2)

Train yourselves in godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. (1 Timothy 4 7-8)

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may always know how you ought to answer everyone. (Colossians, 4, 6.)

And I will show you a still more excellent way. (The way of love)

Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. (1 Corinthians 13,4-13.)
