Avoiding Scams
Article Submitted By: The TMB TEAM
The old adage ‘if it sounds too good to be true it probably is’ is actually a very good rule to follow. There are a lot of scams that aim to take advantage of ambitious new talent. Avoiding them is relatively easy if you know what to look out for.

A common scam is when people claiming to be scouts for model agencies approach models on the street. They will invite you for a shoot with the intention of charging you extortionate amounts of money for very poor quality photographs. They will try to convince you that these images are essential for your portfolio. Reputable agencies rarely charge you for a photoshoot and even if they did, they would not ask for the money up front but would probably deduct it from the work they had found you. Good agencies often have relationships with high quality photographers and will often source good quality test shoots to help you to build your portfolio.

Beware of internet based scams. There are very few good quality Internet sites that have the genuine intention of helping models. Look out for sites promising, for a fee, to make you the new Kate Moss and boasting about the glamorous jet set life style they can offer you.
